GLP-1 Face Is Real. Been There, Done That, Got the T-Shirt.

I have been on my own GLP-1 adventure. So when someone tells me, “I love the weight I lost, but I swear my face aged ten years,” I am not sitting there thinking they are imagining it. I get it, because I have looked in the mirror and had the exact same thought. You lose weight, your clothes fit better, you feel better about your body...and then suddenly your cheeks look flatter, your under eyes look more noticeable, your skin looks a little looser and somehow your face did not get the memo that this was supposed to be exciting. Welcome to GLP-1 face. And yes, it is a real thing.
What is actually happening?
When you lose a significant amount of weight, you do not get to choose exactly where the fat comes from. Unfortunately, your body does not say, “No worries, I will take this exclusively from the stomach and thighs and leave Marissa’s cheeks alone.” Some facial fat can go too. And when you lose that volume, especially if the weight comes off fairly quickly, the skin sitting over it may suddenly look different. You may notice more laxity, more hollowing, fine lines that suddenly look more obvious, crepey texture, deeper looking folds or under eyes that look more tired. Sometimes the face just looks...deflated. I know. Such a beautiful word.
But this is where I CAN help
This is the part I really want people to understand. Not every change you are seeing is something you just have to accept. I cannot put lost facial fat back with a facial, and I am not going to tell you microneedling magically replaces volume. It does not. But I absolutely can work on the skin that is now sitting over that changing facial structure. We can work on collagen, texture, hydration, fine lines, crepey skin, pigment and sun damage that suddenly seems more obvious now that everything else has changed. Sometimes the skin just needs help catching up with the weight loss.
This is one of the reasons I love microneedling
Microneedling can make a lot of sense for some people after significant weight loss because we are intentionally encouraging a repair response and collagen remodeling. No, it is not going to refill a hollow temple. But skin that looks thinner, looser or more textured can sometimes look considerably better when we improve the quality of the tissue itself. That is an important distinction. You may still have less facial volume than you did before the weight loss, but healthier, smoother, better supported skin can change the way that volume loss looks. And sometimes that is exactly what someone needs.
Sometimes I want to work on hydration first
This is another thing I noticed during my own GLP-1 experience. When you are eating less, drinking differently, changing your entire routine and sometimes dealing with side effects, your skin can look a little rough. Dry. Dull. Just...tired. If your barrier is struggling and your skin is dehydrated, throwing the strongest treatment I own at your face is not necessarily the smartest first move. Sometimes I want to get the skin comfortable again first, then we start getting more corrective. Because yes, I want improvement. I also want your skin healthy enough to respond well to what I am doing.
Chemical peels can have a place too
A GLP-1 does not create sun damage, but losing facial volume can suddenly make you notice everything else. The pigment. The uneven tone. The rough texture. The little lines. A carefully chosen chemical peel can help with some of those concerns. Again, I am not peeling lost volume back into your face. I am improving the canvas. That matters.
And sometimes what you need is more than what I do
I also think being honest here is important. There are times when what someone is seeing really is significant volume loss. If the main issue is a hollow cheek, temple or under eye, improving the skin may help the overall appearance, but it may not completely address what is bothering you. That is where other medical aesthetic options may enter the conversation.
I am perfectly comfortable saying that. My goal is not to convince you that every facial concern can be fixed with something I personally offer. My goal is to make your skin look as good as I possibly can and tell you when something else may make more sense.
You do not need to regret losing the weight
This one matters to me personally. You can be thrilled with your weight loss and still hate what it did to your face. Both things can be true. You do not have to sit there thinking, “Well, I guess this is the price I pay.” We just figure out what changed. Is it dehydration? Is it texture? Is it laxity? Is it actual facial volume loss? Is it all of the above? Then we make a plan. Because I have been there. Done that. Got the GLP-1 T-shirt. And if you come sit in my treatment room telling me you love your new body but would really like your face to stop looking like it went through something...I am probably going to understand exactly what you mean.
